SeekTeachers is urgently seeking an experienced and committed Early Years Librarian to join our client in 2025. The role is to support the learning and development of our youngest students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for children's literature, a love of storytelling, and a strong commitment to fostering a love of reading in young learners.
Key Responsibilities:
**Manage the Early Years library, including the organisation, maintenance, and cataloguing of books and other resources.
**Promote reading and literacy through storytelling sessions, library visits, and reading programmes.
**Assist Early Years teachers in selecting appropriate resources to support the curriculum.
**Develop and maintain a welcoming, engaging, and child-friendly library environment.
**Foster a love of reading by recommending age-appropriate books and resources to students, teachers, and parents.
**Plan and implement reading events, such as book fairs, author visits, and reading challenges.
**Support the development of students' early literacy skills through interactive activities and guided reading.
**Collaborate with the wider school library team to ensure a cohesive approach to literacy development throughout the school.
**Manage and support students during independent and guided library sessions.
**Maintain library records, including loan and return systems, and monitor the condition of books.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A degree or qualification in Library Science, Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with young children, ideally in a school or early years setting.
- Knowledge of early childhood development and the role of literature in early literacy.
- Strong organisational skills with experience managing library resources.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for children's literature and a commitment to promoting reading.
- Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of Mandarin is an advantage but not required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff.
