Languages
The most common language spoken in Spain is its own national language, Spanish, of which over 89% of inhabitants speak and has various dialects and regional languages such as Aranese, Basque, Catalan, Galician, Aragonese, Asturian, Leonese Fala, Cantabrian, Extremaduran, Eonavian, Benaquese, Ribagorcan and Mirandese.
Additionally, many other Indo-European languages exist in the country, with 27% of inhabitants speaking English, 12% speaking French and 2% speaking German. The Portuguese language is also somewhat prominent in the country with many Spanish-Portuguese language combinations and derivations being used, however, there are some small areas speaking Portuguese proper. It’s also known that Afro-Asiatic languages such as Arabic and Berber are spoken by most members of the Muslim community.
