The current pandemic situation has drastically affected teacher recruitment in 2020 and resulting in school closures. Teacher retention improves short term for the teachers that are already located on the ground and have a much higher chance of job security in the nearer future.

Educators should expect pay cuts as most schools are struggling and should remain in the country for job search. Teachers should be more flexible with the wage; benefits that the school will provide as of the COVID-19, a huge number of schools have been shut down due to the safety of pupils and staff and many are continuing homeschooling. This is what teaching is looking like for now until things start to get better by 2021 or over the next few years.

Teacher recruitment has been very low than usual as many schools are hiring teachers within the country as of travel restrictions in certain countries, being in lockdown and other difficulties. Many teachers feel comfortable homeschooling than attending schools as of the outbreak and have been following strict social distancing for the safety of themselves and others.

Here are different scenarios to consider in the current situation:

1. Some school are paying for the teacher’s flights but some schools are not

2. Some schools are providing the teacher with allowance while in the quarantine period

3. Some schools are not paying for the teachers’ expenses in the quarantine period so you would have to manage the travel, hotel expenses by yourself

4. Different schools have different approaches and system to follow in this time, not all schools are doing the same

5. Certain countries are not opening schools yet, but some countries are

6. Each country is following its own guidelines as of their government and the country’s new rules (flying, traveling restrictions)

There will be ongoing delays in interviews, recruitment process as schools are following strict measures to ensure the safety and well being of everyone. New rules; guidelines will be in place to continue carefully in these times.

Even though some schools have reopened, new safety guidelines are being followed to ensure the safety of teachers and students always by wearing masks, hand sanitizers, 2 meters distance rule, hand washing continuously, and much more!
